Coursework feedback:
March 2016
Meg having seen your most recent draft, I am concerned as to how much you have to do; your editting will take you longer than you are anticipating. Please do ensure you are reflecting on the codes and conventions of documentaries as you progress; dissolve blend transitions do not work mid interview. Try to emulate the styles you have studied rather than using techniques you are comfortable with.
With reading this advice I will take into consideration what has been said. I will also be spending some time outside of lessons to help me with the editing I have left to do.
February 2016
I am pleased you have settled on your new coursework topic; you were right to change tact if you did not have access to the original subject matter. I am concerned, however that you have not left yourself a huge amount of time to get everything done- so please do ensure you are working not only in lessons, but outside of them too to get your submission completed.
Now that I have changed my documentary idea, I feel more confident knowing that I have access to a range of areas that I can shoot my film; as well as many different people I could talk to about the topic of the film.
January 2016
Meg your prep work to date looks outstanding and you are contributing well to lessons; well done. I feel that your idea of Skiing, while usable, does need a clear narrative structure; think about Todorov's theory of Equilibrium to help shape the ebb and flow of your piece. Having a skier wouldn't be enough, but if there was a competition they might enter- then you could shape your narrative around those preparations perhaps.
The narrative structure was one of the reasons that I changed my documentary idea. I couldn't see a narrative structure within that idea. Now that I have changed my idea to Clay Pigeon Shooting; I have creature a structure around a person who is training and then competing in a weekly competition. As well as this, with the competition being weekly, it makes it easier to shoot as there are several days, when I can film.
Blog Overview:
Meg your blog is shaping up nicely, well done. I am pleased to see you using your own examples of topics and exemplars offered in class. Remember to include analysis of each aspect as you add it to your posts.
You also need to ensure that as your practical process develops, so too does your blog. Every decision you make needs to be recorded here in Diary Entry form- I'm looking for around 60 entries when complete. This is essential for the examiner to see the journey you've made and planning and prep you've been responding to throughout.
Finally, make sure you have worked to the checklist; you need shooting schedules, music allowances from producers, storyboards, location shots- everything surrounding the produciton, fully documented on this blog. Thanks, Sir.
I will make sure that all aspects of the checklist have been completed and uploaded on to my blog.
Great advice sir!
